Godot Engine 4.4 is finally here! :rocket:

Look forward to plenty of quality of life improvements hidden within this release. Faster load speeds, reduced stutter, streamlined processes, and more!

this version is actually amazing, I’m astounded by how fast godot is now.
some notes about this release so far:

the good

  • performance increase is unbelievable. godot runs so smooth now and looks better than ever. this same PC used to struggle running unity and godot ran faster, and this release is somehow even faster.

  • lightmapGI is viable now. baking times are in the seconds, while previously it would take several minutes or not bake at all. the scene looks specially good when setting light sizes (PCSS).

  • lots of great new features that I haven’t been able to test yet but will be useful.

  • I no longer need to download Jolt

  • favourites is great but I still need to get used to it.

the bad

  • opening a project it needs to convert it and add UID files. I don’t mind the UID files but this step takes a long time.
  • I don’t like the new resource selection dialog. I wan’t to click on a material and then click accept. the default preview view is also too small and crops the names of the resources, forcing me to go into list mode.
  • there is no way to disable game embedding globally or permanently. the options in editor settings do nothing and it has to be done per project. I have a 1920x1080 screen and want to test the game in 1536x768 for performance and to see it bigger, but the embedding shrinks the game into a tiny square.(gotta test this more)
  • camera preview is good in theory, but the preview takes up too much space above and below the preview and there’s no way to shrink it. it would be better if it was in it’s own tab or window. I’m not using it for now, it is also very tiny.

This option worked for me, and I’ve removed all editor options as well… Works for all projects for me…

So amazing! Looking forward to the game window embed being available also for macOS users!
Great job!
