Help a newbie understand

I am 16 and I have been testing different tools, game engine was the best all in one tool, I make and understand almost all tech topic from web request shaders figma etc it’s fun how Godot integrate with them and how everyone sees my “wasting my time” my dad quote.
I have felt as it I should stop when my friends don’t support me but I am still building
1 how do I really earn a living if all I do is to code and fix problems and love tech?. Should I change carrier and do Godot as a hobby?. If I become a doctor will I have time for Godot?. How do I support my family if I become an adult

It’s overwhelming that I don’t know how you guys handle it

It’s very easy to find spare time, even if you have only few minutes a day, you’ll still find some time

The only and only requirement is that you truly enjoy game dev as hobby, personally no one knew i know how to code for 5 years until i started to really talk about it, before game dev + modding was my sandbox game and it was one if not the best games i’ve ever played, other things will come naturally, career, job, marketting and all of these

Thank you so much

I spent a large chunk of my life, from the 6th grade to Sophomore year in college with the goal of being a game developer as a career. Turns out it wasn’t for me and I pursued different career avenues. 6 years later I’ve decided to give game making another shot, but as a hobby. Despite now being married, having a busy social life, and having a full time job, I’m still able to put maybe an hour or so a day towards learning game making. This time I’m doing it for fun and I’m not staking my life’s ambitions on game development and it’s so much less stressful and much more rewarding. I’m still open to the idea of it being a career someday, but I know it’s unlikely.

You’re still young and presumably have plenty of free time. If learning Godot and making games is something you enjoy, then do it! Who knows, maybe you’ll have a natural knack for it and can make a name for yourself? My advice, however, would be to not be a one-trick pony. Don’t place your future in the hands of making it big in the game development world, it’s too risky. If you love the programming aspect, maybe think of a career in the tech/IT field? If you love the art aspect, pursue graphic design. These are more stable careers that you can support a family with. At the end of the day, find something that’s both stable and fulfilling. Have an open mind and if you truly do enjoy it, make games in your spare time and who knows, if you’re lucky, maybe it will be a career sometime.

Idk, those are just my two-cents ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Oooh wow thank you. I’m about to study computer science in university
