How to create an export patch

In Godot 3.0.6, when opening the project-export dialog, there is a tab “Patches” where one should be able to create patches.

The first thing to do is obviously to “Add initial export”. So I selected the base_game.pck created at an earlier stage of development. Another line appeares which says “Add previous patches…”. Since I have no previous patches, I cannot add anything there.

Now pressing the button “Make Patch” gives no reaction at all. I expect that a patch (a .pck containing the differences) will be created, but there is no patch and even no error.
Can anybody please give me a hint how to create a patch?
