I just discovered that there are 2 Godot Forums

So, while google searching today, I stumbled across this:

There the Godot Forum (You are here) and the Godot Forums with an S.

Why? Can someone explain this? I’m just REALLY confused.

Here’s a link to the website:

It seems like our forum is the more popular one with more experienced people, but apparently that other forum has been around since 2023.

Does anyone know the context with this? Because I think having 2 help forums for Godot is a little unnecessary. And I’m certainly not moving over there. (Not after I got the Devotee badge, at least)

I heard the old one was deprecated to make this one. That’s why the Archive category exists to hold the old info.

There is activity on the other forum.

(These are the topic for the entirety of yesterday)

But it’s much less than this one.

I also made a topic over on that other Godot Forum asking for some context.

I asked because the main developer of that forum seems to be active a lot. So, I can hopefully get a direct answer.

Why though? The forum you mention there has no claim on being anything official - some person just got a domain and started hosting their private forum. If you are interested in their motivation for doing so, go ask there.

Nobody is forcing you to

Having two official forums would be. Everything is fine here.

I’m not sure what any of those responses add exactly.

I’m just pointing all this out because having another forum with the same purpose doesn’t seem practical in the slightest.

Please help me understand what your intention is then.

Hm, you got me there. I just made this post on a whim because it’s interesting and wanted to get context.

I guess this also informs people on both forums that there’s another Godot Forum.

Nah it’s still in use and there are active and knowledgeable people over there.

I use both but I prefer the other one because a) it’s quieter, b) if you write something people will actually read it and c) I like the forum software more because this here is Discourse, which sucks. A lot!

Also there is Reddit. Should we get rid of that as well?

Sorry, no offense of course, but I find it quite funny how perplexed you are that there are two, or three if we count Reddit, places to discuss Godot. And that’s not even counting Discord.

A coulpe years ago the owner of the old forums got angry at the people running the godot foundation because of some of their dealings and closed the forums that he ran and paid for out of his own pocket. This official forum was made after that, but then the old one got a new owner and was re-opened, so now we have two.

This is the answer I’ve been looking for.

I apologize for sounding so bewildered that there’s a second help-based Godot Forum. It really did perplex me that much.

Also, r/godot is completely different to the Godot Forum, and is genuinely much worse in my opinion for help and more useful for showcases and memes.

I thought it was interesting and I had a quick look. Personally I have no interest but I can’t see it being anything but good. There could be ten forums dedicated to Godot, I suppose you just work with the community you like the best or have most success with when looking for answers to things.

It seems like a perfectly nice community over there too though. Although I did find a post saying Battlefield 6 was built with Godot, which it most certainly was not (unfortunately).

Nice to know there is an alternative out there! Do you remember all the fuss about Redot when it started. They seem to be ticking along just fine too, so good luck to them, I hope it works out. In my opinion, the bigger the Godot focussed environment is, the better it will be for Godot in the long run.

Thanks for letting us know about it though.

I got a response from the owner of the forum and a few other members:

That other forum is actually the OG, but was overshadowed by the newly created official forum.

I also responded over there:

I think this is all done and dusted now. I am no longer bewildered.

Didn’t know that existed. Neat.

4 if you count Discord.
5 if you count Stack Overflow.

There is likely others that can filter/tag for GODOT.

What’s number 3?

Reddit.

That’d get my vote tbh.
