Imported meshes are getting lighter/darker based on roatation?

Here’s an example of what’s going on. In the first image, the last segment of my character’s tail is rotated the way it’s supposed to be. In the second, it’s rotated to be upright.

intended rotation, object is dark

vertical rotation, object is bright

This issue seems to affect every imported mesh, but not built-in meshes. It almost seems like the lighting of a single face is being applied to the entire mesh?

Found the solution:

Blockbench exports messed up models. I had to run it through Blender to clean everything up.
