Is the Easter Bubble about to Burst? (Happy Easter everybody!)

For chocolate, my favorite is Reeses. I love the cups and fast breaks.

I am very biased towards Finnish products, since I am Finnish. I don’t think I have ever eaten any other chocolate brand other than Fazer and Marabou (which is Swedish).

My favourite chocolate is definitely Fazer’s Blue (Fazerin sininen).

(Other brand recommendations are appreciated.)

something ive wondered is how did this go from the day Jesus rose from the dead in Christianity to a bunny hiding eggs with candy

Happy Easter.

Since Easter is in the Spring, a lot of things in the natural world became symbols of resurrection. Like butterflies being born from their cocoons, and chicks being born from eggs. The egg or cocoon representing the tomb, and then the births representing the breaking of the tomb door.

Eggs were also on the forbidden list for eating during Easter. So people would decorate them, and then eat them on Easter (Lent ends on Easter).

The Osterhase (German for “Easter Hare”) dates back to the 1600s and German folklore traditions. There was a Germanic goddess who supposedly turned a bird into a hare to amuse children, and it laid brightly colored eggs.

Christians back then were much more open to a more magical world. (Martin Luther, who lived in the 1400s believed fairies were real.) German Lutherans brought the tradition to the US in the 1700s when they emigrated.

That’s actually very interesting.

But by “Tomb”, you mean “Womb”. They’re ironically polar opposites.

I do not. Christmas is the celebration of Jesus’ birth. Easter is the celebration of his resurrection from death after he was buried in a tomb.

Oh, that makes sense. I know nothing about religion.

You know, that would make it tomb AND a womb, in a funny way.

It went the other way around. Pagan spring/equinox celebrations were going on for a long time way before Christianity ever spread. Then this seemingly weir amalgamation of bunnies, eggs and rising from the dead happened. I say seemingly because they all symbolize the renewal of life, although in a slightly different style.

Ha. Martin Luther was also known to have a sense of humor. He said that the devil could not stand bodily functions, and therefore farting was a way to cast out the devil. But we’re talking about someone who lived 600 years ago.

Perhaps, but as far as I know, the actual easter bunny tradition, while pagan, started about 1600 years after the Christian church was started.
