Is this FPS drop ok or should I do something about it?

When my game transitions from the main menu to the main game, the main game scene is quite big, there is a huge drop off on FPS. Now the player cannot see this as it is behind a screen transition where it fades to black, the drop happens, then it fades into the starry night sky start of the game.

But this drop is worryingly deep! Is it something that should concern me (as in I might well be doing something wrong) or, is it not a problem I should worry about?

Checking on the profiler there is the matching spike on the process time, and it seems to be that one frame, but everything else looks fine and is virtually flat. The physics frame time is constant throughout. It must just be the loading of a big scene, I guess, but is this dangerous and I should split up my big scene somehow, or is it just fine and normal?

Thanks in advance.

If it only happens when loading the main scene, and the user can’t see it, I wouldn’t worry about it.

If this FPS drop happens during the scene being actively loaded, and not before or after, then that is to be expected as pushing big amounts of data is a big hit on the CPU and drive. As long as there’s no crashes or visible FPS drops during gameplay it’ll be fine.

Well, the game’s gotta load at some point in time. It’s as simple as that.

Just make sure it loads in a reasonable timeframe and keep the gameplay smooth.

It’s normal. Nothing to be concerned about.
