Jufofu Android - Showcase

This is Jufofu - a high score game that consists of clearing color lines with the main focus of making Multiliners - which means matching multiple lines in a single play. The better the Multiliner, the more points are rewarded.

As the play session develops the ground rises and new colors are added to the mix, making it more challenging as it progresses. The player has the freedom to configure the arsenal in any way to unleash clever combinations that will allow better Multiliners.

Achievements progression introduces new game modes, power-up’s, and medallion parts which improve stats.

The game permits the experimentation with different power-up’s combinations. For me, it is all about giving freedom to the player, so they can create their own ways. As a dev I’m enthusiastic about witnessing how players create their own strategies and synergies - the number of power-up combinations is a bit more than 300.

:test_tube: The game is currently in test phase and I would be glad if you’d like to try it out - just drop a message if you are interested.

UPDATE

After doing my first beta test the result was not bad but also not good. The game seemed to work pretty good but there was a big issue: players didn’t know how to play due to the lack of instructions. And also they felt the game was too complicated from the very beginning.

I took note and thought about my next steps:

  1. Do an introductory, hopefully ,fun tutorial.
  2. Add a new mode → easy

FUN FACT: I’m in commit #928

Currently working on point ONE

UPDATE

I’ve been continuing to improve the UX and the onboarding process. My sister and mom have tried the game, and as big puzzle game players, they have given me some painful to hear and valuable feedback.

The onboarding is now more challenge oriented, I reduced the amount of text to be read and increased the play-time. The player will achieve its firsts victories during these first steps, giving the player a sense of quick advancement.

I’ve also improved the achievements section GUI.

UPDATE commit #1104

What have I done ?

  • Changed the monetization strategy: instead of the player downloading the game for free as a demo with the option to unlock the full game. I added a few ads that are shown after each game session cycle and also when a player publishes a highscore to the leaderboard. The game still looks clean (which is important to me) because the ads pop-up for a certain amount of time and then the game viewport is completely clean from any sort of ad. I’m completely against having ads as banners. Also, the player can pay X amount to remove the ads for ever.

  • Fixed gameplay bugs.

  • The player can only submit a new score to the leaderboard. If he tries to submit the same score, the request is rejected.

  • The uploader progress to the cloud (to use in case of re-installing the game) was removed. The reason ? To keep the GUI simple and avoid confusing players. Also, it added a complexity which I didn’t think was worth it.

  • Refined/added sounds, aesthetics. Improved UI. Added a container which explains the different characteristics of each game mode (Easy, Normal, Veteran, Ultra)

I have reached a stable version, so I finally removed the “beta” word from the release versioning tag. After more than a thousand commits, Jufofu is now v1.0.0

If you’d like to join my last test program, please send me a pm. I’ll be happy if you’d join.
