My first post on the Godot Forum is to announce the release of a 3D mini-game made in Godot 4.6: Mission Alpha 33.
It’s a 3D Physics Platformer in a Retro Scifi mood.
It’s a single short level, essentially made to try Godot 4 and learn the basics of the engine.
I’d be glad to have your feedback, especially about performances on your config: it uses global real-time illumination (voxelgi node - 128 subdivisions) and runs at a constant 60 fps in full HD on my pc (ryzen 7 5600/rtx 4060/16go RAM) but it may be expansive on some configs. So I’d like to know how it runs on yours.
Press F3 to show fps.
Press MMB to pause the game.
First thing off the straight off its itch page looks very clean but (I also fall victim to this) but normally for playtesting if you use a small demo that is play in browser it will get people hooked and want to help you, but that is totally optional. Some things I noticed upon loading in
Good
The music is very good and relaxing
The main menu is very cool as the space setting fits the menu very well
Bad
Not necessarily bad but your games loading screen is the default Godot logo
The game kinda just throws you in with no tutorial
It could just be the fact that I use a laptop, but it was very laggy and it even crashed and it seems to keep happening
Otherwise so far, the graphics are good, but stick with it and you’ll reach the light at the end of the tunnle .
“for playtesting if you use a small demo that is play in browser it will get people hooked and want to help you”: I don’t want to turn this one into a web browser game. It would make it really poor graphically and I have no interest in it. In this case, it just has to be downloaded and tested on a pc.
It’s true, there is no tutorial but I didn’t think it was necessary: physics game, you have to roll the ball to the goal through a maze, that’s all… In fact, in a full game, this little level could be my introduction tutorial.
“It was very laggy and even crashed”: the game uses voxelgi, it could be expansive on your laptop. What are its specs? That’s the kind of info I’m really interested in, much more than a simple: “it crashed”.
“The game loading screen is the default Godot logo”: I began to use Godot a few months ago to learn and test the engine and I didn’t notice you could customize the game loading screen. That’s something I will certainly do.
Thanks a lot for the link. I’ll definitively change this default loading screen.
By the way, if you could tell me the technical specs of your laptop, it would be useful too.
About gameplay: it’s quite basic. For the moment, I have focused on the scripting and visual aspects of the game and I’m glad you appreciated it. Now I feel like making a more complex level with a richer gameplay. Then, I’d be glad to have your feedback and suggestions about it, when it runs on your new laptop
I’d like as many people as possible to test my level and see how it performs on different PC configurations! And to tell me if it’s cool to play.
Thanks a lot!
Fellow citizens of Godot, I once again call upon you!
Last week, I asked you to download my game and give it a try, and you answered the call in overwhelming numbers: through your collective effort, we have reached the staggering milestone of 0 download and 0 pieces of feedback.
But now, together, we can go further because when we’re together, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!
So I believe we can reach 2 downloads and maybe even 1 piece of feedback.
The future is in your hands.
Vote for me!
I have the utmost respect for all minorities, including yours, and I fully support your fight for the right to play
Unfortunately, I don’t have a Mac to test a Mac export, so all I could do would be to make one and release it as-is, with absolutely no guarantee that it would work properly.
Would you be willing to give it a try anyway? If so, I’ll add it to itch.io in a few days.
Please make also adjustable those Graphics, as Apple seem to utilise more their own upscaling and have limit on texture sizes similar like mobile graphics, which basically all Apple Silicon are.
Ok, the mac version is online. I’m curious to see if it works.
The graphics are not adjustable. I’d have to make an option menu for that and I didn’t do it yet. So it only runs in FHD.
The game making computer mis-behave. The GPU still showing 100% usage even after close of the game, not mention the game literally stop when ball drops.
Well, i see your hardware is having a hard time. I have absolutely no idea of what’s going on.
As i told you, i have no mac, I never even used a mac and i told you I didn’t know if it would work. I can’t even try to fix it. It made this export available to test it and it’s a shame it doesn’t work but to say it could be a virus is stupid and insulting.
Maybe your computer is more for bureautics than for games, it could explain why the game is so expansive on your mac. Or maybe godot exports are not optimized for macs. No idea.
At least, we tried.
I’ll remove this export test from itch.io. and keep the windows version only, who works fine.
I have tried bunch of games on this hardware, it sometimes not perform to 60fps, but this is not laggy it’s literary overtook the OBS and cheapest safari(browser). It’s something going on there with your game at least for Mac OS as far I can tell. Maybe plugin or other code l.
It could be anything - maybe global illumination, maybe very big skybox textures, maybe the jolt physics engine (it crashes when the ball falls and at this moment, the ball (rigibody) turns to freeze=true), maybe something else, even on your side.
Unfortunately, I have NO IDEA at all. When something is buggy in Windows, I can investigate and fix it. Here, I can’t do it.
By the way: “M2” means nothing. Is it a cheap Mac Mini M2? A high-end Mac Pro M2 Ultra? THIS is what would be intersting to know, if I intended to make a mac release. But I don’t.
