Materia is the card game we are developing, before having a full functional demo we want to try the concept, you can download it to play on Windows PC, any feedback is welcome
If we test that could work on some people, then we could change graphics, other way is a waste of time
It’s already quite playable, and the UI feels overall quite good, with card animations, sfx at a reasonable level, and so on
Any plans for future mechanics? I imagine some cards will have rules beyond just their four values.
It looks like you’ve gotten rid of the lenticular print, which seems a shame… or maybe there some cards that do have that?
A couple of notes:
It’s a little difficult selecting the bottom card in the hand, as it only registers clicks on the top part.
Enchanted bunny is objectively worse than all other cards (all values equal to or lower than another starter card) - does the card have a purpose?
The way the cards are laid out, they hide three quarters of their values. You could probably come up with a layout that doesn’t have that problem.
The flavor text on cards is quite dense, and unimportant to the gameplay. You could save a lot of screen space by simply omitting it, and I’m not sure it’s making the game any better.
Number keys to select card X would be nice.
Some cards have a tiny icon - it’s unclear what it represents.
When selecting a card from the opponents hand, the hovered card should be in front of the others - its values are currently obscured.
A nice “you win” effect would be welcome, besides the fanfare.
First of all I would like to thank you for your feedback, I already implemented the idea of selecting card by numbers, I have to find a way to be able to see the stats always. Thtere is going to be a windows to see what everything means, the icons with a help book using videos and text to describe every new skill/icon to underestand the mechanics, new VFX for the skills and materia included.
I like the text to make collecting them interesting, a bit of poetry, besides the value and skills.
I plan to present it to the itch.io demo jam, I will inform you, as I need momentum and people intereseted to get some one to publish the game for me, maybe a frind graphic designer to make the graphic part feel consistent and respecting copyrights, probably using open stable diffusion models.
The demo will be important, and don’t know, as a kickstarter don’t think will do well, and I don’t have an steam whishlist option yet, do you think a page to register for news to convert intereset in sales could be interesting?
The card “enchantted bunny” is the weakest and has the purpose of playing against it with avatar foes, it is also a joke and reference to “Bing Bang Theory”.
I’ll improve on your positive critizism, thank you. I’ll inform you as soon there is another alpha worth of trying, I think I’ll wait to have the demo delivered next month.
I’d cause trouble, it is a heavy game despite the look, I’d rather create a version for Android, it could work on tablets, nut the idea is to have a version on Windows/PC for steam and itch.io
Frankly, I think it’s very very early to be thinking about sales. “Getting someone to publish the game for you” is not going to fall into your lap. You’ll have to create a product that can compete with the market, and is fun enough that a publisher can be sure to make money off it - if not, there’s a sea of other indie devs out there, looking for exactly the same thing as you.
I tell anyone who’ll listen, making games is sadly a terrible way to make money. I’ve worked at three different developers, all of which went under, despite skilled employees, careful planning and publisher backing. I say that as a warning - don’t expect your game will somehow sidestep these challenges.
