update: did a material pass and now it looks like a california raisin paralysis demon :joy:

made some great progress on this boss today, although I’m scared these materials are gonna make my trash dev laptop catch on fire when its time to bake em out


Edit: might as well post my incredibly jank edge detection material i use in blender all the time:

It’s a little finnicky to bake out but fiddling with the values in the map range node and the value input for the ao distance usually ends up with something usable

So I’m -mostly- done with the high-ish poly and material pass, I’m a little unconvinced about that big flat painted black metal material so I might go back in and tweak that or add some decals for interest or something, but I want to see the whole thing lit in-engine before I make any big judgements. Currently working on retopologizing the organic bits and modifying the hard surface bits to fit together as a more-or-less watertight mesh. I modeled the hard surface bits pretty low to begin with so i may be able to just bake out the materials and use them otherwise as-is
