An arcade game made using traditional 2D animation
A year ago, I was approached by traditional 2D animator Nick DiLiberto, who had seen my Godot videos on YouTube. After animating several full-length films BY HAND, he had plans to make a game, and I agreed to write the code for it.
Fast-forward to today, and the game is nearly ready for release, with a demo available now in Steam’s Next Fest:
Please wishlist the game if you’re interested, and you’ll be notified when it launches!
Takeaways
This was my first time releasing a Godot game, and I learned a lot in the process - something I’ll probably talk about more in future videos. This game, in particular, had its challenges, due to the vast number of sprites involved (probably 10,000+).
Special shout out to GodotSteam for making Steam integration super easy!
Thanks for trying it out and recording a video! It’s really interesting to see someone play it for the first time.
It looks to me like sometimes you’re swinging a little too late, which is why some of the enemies run past. We probably need to fine-tune the timing a little, though.
I’ve encountered a visual bug on my device (I’m on a Thinkpad laptop running Windows) where some things appear as white squares.
It seems to occur when I have render quality and/or texture quality set to high
Screenshot below is the main menu, though it was not like this originally (only after playing and exiting to menu after renabling quality settings to “high” mid game in the pause menu)
after changing settings in the second part of the video, it takes a really long time to load so I recommend you skip ahead.
