SSS not working when changing alpha in 3.0

Hi, I’m running 3.0 and I’m trying to get SSS to work with a shader I made, the shader set the alpha to hide parts that aren’t supposed to be rendered, however when setting the alpha SSS stops working, any idea what might cause this? Is it intentional or did I find a bug?

I have been told alpha is not supposed to work at all with SSS.
