Struggling to come back to Godot

The situation

  • Vico discovers Godot
  • Vico follows a tutorial and has fun (yaaaayyyy :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: )
  • Vico tries to enter a game jam and finds a team (and portencial frends  )
  • On the first day of the jam Vico discovers that somewhere doing the time his team chaged game engines (Vico did not know that :smiling_face_with_tear:)
  • So insted made a space invaders clone (I almost finished at the time but I lost interest on it)
  • I gone for I don’t know how long :upside_down_face:

Today

I want to make games but it’s hard for me. I struggle to focus on stuff and starting is even harder for me, I find myself doing other stuff like art, 3D modeling(kinda) and playing games, they are things I do like doing.
Its just kinda a strange situation.
I should make something but I don’t really know what. Also I have school to keep in mind.
(If anyone has a sujestion or tips I would be happy to hear)

I am also a beginner, so I would make simple projects like platformers or a pong clone, and keep making simple stuff until you get the hang of it and challenge yourself to make a bigger project

Obrigado,

Maybe 3D modeling is more your jam. It’s a great skill to have and if you prefer contributing to a game that way, that’s ok.

I recommend following a class or tutorial. I really like GameDev.tv’s tutorials. They have a number of really good classes for Godot, as well as fantastic Blender classes.

My favorite Godot class is Godot 4: Build an Action Combat RPG | GameDev.tv and it’s $13 on sale. They do a good job of teaching, even if you’re a beginner. I learned a ton in this even though I’d already made 3D games in Godot, and I still refer back to the project I made in the class. The class only teaches mouse/keyboard, but if you look in the comments of the lessons I added comments on how I made the controller work in each section.

If you don’t want to spend money, there are a lot of tutorials on YouTube. I’ve worked with a number of programmers from countries where English isn’t the first language, and they tell me it is easier for them to learn from a video where they can see what’s happening than from a written tutorial. Maybe that would help you too.

I’m a beginner too, but i made things so simple for me. If you feel lazy to start a project, ASAP and visit official Godot.doc read a little and practice more, maybe print ā€œhello worldā€ program and modelate it using if statements
