True multiplayer?

I couldn’t think of an example, but Foxhole might be the answer I was looking for. Aren’t there any other MMOs that completely rely on players doing everything that affects economy/world? I wonder if there are games where the players are quest givers. But I guess Foxhole kinda does that too?

Brothers is an indie title from some years ago that may be something like what you are looking for. I didnt particularly like it but others may do.

It takes two is supposed to be as well.

Trine-series. You can play single player and switch between characters, but they are designed to be three player local coop games.

Not really quests, but requests for equipment or support at locations.

This question isn’t practical at ALL. It’s more philosophical, and I don’t think philosophy is very fun.

Have you considered players playing against each other?

I mean it was a question based on a debate with my brother so I just used the phrasing we were using.

Philosophy is great. And I mean yeah the thread was made to try get more ammunition against my brother lol. It was never meant to be practical in the first place.

Multiplayer to me is Mario Kart SNES and Joe and Mac.

There are plenty of Korean games that don’t leave the country that might fit your definition. There are no NPCs. All quests are set by players, and there are hierarchies where players and player groups own lands.

Eve Online is very similar to this, as was Star Wars Galaxies. Both allow you to play completely organizational/government roles with no fighting or crafting at all. They do not work without other players.

Party slop are by definitions coop and the action depends on cooperation completely so you are either just don’t know what I’m talking about or you or your brother is moving the goalposts.

Cheers, enjoy the (long) weekend !

Edit : play Peak or other co-op “party slop" games. They’re 100% co-op and have been designed as such, not a single player game campaign played together.

Army of two on 360 is another fine example.

No I mainly mean a lot of the games likemlethal company the players have to help eachother and it’s boring alone but you are still doing your own thing on your own in many of them.

It sounds more like your definition then is cooperative shouting games like Spaceteam and Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (which is a FANTASTIC VR party game).

You literally can’t play without at least 2 players, and you cannot accomplish anything in the game without help from someone else.

Keep talking is actually such a good example thanks

Man, that term sounds so derogatory. Those are actually good games.

You use the term “slop” for bad things. Like AI slop. :tractor:

I think it’s a term like “friendslop”, which started as a derogatory term but was quickly adopted as a genre term because it sounds funny.

It sounds pretty rude to me. Imagine calling my game “PvP Slop” or “Arena Slop”. It doesn’t sound very nice.

You might as well call this naming convention “Slop Slop”.

It’s what’s used by a lot of game reviewers, with the caveat you mention. As someone else mentioned it comes from friend slop.

It’s not meant as demeaning, at all.

I would have thought most of you would be familiar with the term and wouldn’t need to discuss it…
