Wow, that is quite the surprise.

I am honestly shocked on how dedicated the godot team is, when they want to make their engine available to all platforms

Maybe godot will be compatible with steam deck soon…

Godot Engine has been capable of running on Steam Deck since the day the Steam Deck released. But you’d probably want to run it in Desktop Mode rather than Gaming Mode. And with a proper keyboard and mouse. And an external display if you have one.

Oh really! I was seriously not expecting that…

Yeah! Steam Deck is just a handheld console-shaped computer that runs Linux by default. You can also install Windows on it just like a normal PC. And since Godot runs on Linux and Windows (among others), my hypothesis was that it should run on the Deck just fine. I’ve never put Windows on my Steam Deck, but one of the first things I did when I got a Deck was to try out the Godot Editor from the Steam storefront on it.

It runs fine, but typing code with the virtual keyboard is not a great experience. Hence why I suggest using an external keyboard and mouse. And the small screen/resolution makes it feel really cramped. Hence why I suggested an external display. And in Gaming Mode you can’t really open a file manager in the background for dragging and dropping files into the editor, or easily have a browser open so you can search for answers to various questions that arise when making a game. Hence why I suggested Desktop Mode where it’s a lot easier to have multiple apps open at once and quickly switch between them (or view them all at once on a larger screen).

In Desktop Mode, docked to an external display, with a keyboard and mouse attached, the editor runs basically indistinguishably from my Windows PC.
