Whats the place for placeholders?

pun fully intended.

Personally, for all my 3d models, im using placeholders, but it also is making me slightly discouraged seeing how it looks like those ai-generated mobile ads :,D im finishing the soundtrack and 2d cutscenes as i go, though.

when do you think placeholders should be used, personally? And i dont know if this is the right forum to ask this, but any tips on making things look.. good?

Placeholders are the temporary assets the hold the place for the permanent assets. AKA, thing you’re really trying to build.

Placeholders are your friend. They’re very helpful for getting the blueprint of a game, as looks don’t matter in that stage of development.

The only thing that matters is that the game works, and placeholders are easily the fastest way to get something working.

For example, I’m working on my gunplay netcode. I need to find a way to sync a projectile to all clients.

So, the fasted way to have a “projectile” is simply a white dot.

Or, I want to build a house for a level:

You get the picture. These placeholder assets can and will be replaced at your leisure, but make sure to appreciate them as a tool in your toolbelt.
