I’m having serious problems getting my game to use more than a small percentage of my CPU’s power but my framerates are getting quite low trying to do everything I want to do. I’ve plugged and plugged AI about efficiency of processes and it seems to know what can be done off the main thread and what can’t. It’s even done plenty of C++ work for me that operates off the main thread. Does anyone know if we will ever be able to use more cores/threads for GODOT’s core processes? Is that in the works? It’s killing me because I could totally pimp out my project if I could utilize more of my CPU.
You can use more threads for your own game logic with the Thread class. There a few project settings to use more threads for physics, rendering, and path finding. You should profile your game and find out what exactly is causing your slow downs, but if you don’t have a concrete plan to “pimp out” your project then threads are more likely to hurt than help.
My project already does all that. I already know what’s causing my slowdowns but it’s all necessary calculations to achieve what I want to achieve with my game.
Do you want to open a topic under Help? If you give more context maybe more eyes on the problem can help.
It’s not one problem. My game needs to more threads for all the calculations that can currently only run on one thread.
actually, if you hadn’t responded I wouldn’t have known rendering could be put on another thread and that bit of information has pulled my project out of the barely playable fps to decent fps. thanks for responding.
