4.6 & 4.6.1 for Windows are unrecognized apps

When I try to run 4.6 or 4.6.1 editors on win 11, I’m hit with the uncrecognize application, blue protection screen windows puts up. I know how to run it anyway, but I’m just curious why it happens, when I wasn’t seeing that with the previous versions I’ve used. I’m still pretty new with Godot. I’ve used 4.4.x and 4.5.x and I don’t remember either of those having that screen. And just to double check I installed an older version, 4.1.x (can’t remember the exact version) and that too ran fine w/o the warning.

I just want to verify if others are seeing this too.

In windows this usually happens when an app isn’t digitally signed, though I’m p sure Godot is. Personally I haven’t had this issue with any version of Godot. Are you sure you downloaded it from the proper source?
It could also be that Win11 does Win11 stuff and throws a tantrum over nothing.

This happens with every release of Godot. Even though it is signed, Microsoft still considers it “untrusted” until a certain number of people open it. It goes away over time as enough people use it. That’s why you don’t see it with older versions, but 4.6, released only a couple weeks ago, does this.

Then how come I’ve never seen this even though I usually install a new version of Godot the same day it was released? Is it related to the fact I have an offline account maybe? Or maybe it hasn’t been added to the list of “potentially untrusted executables” cause it’s so early?

Because you install it. Which makes me think you use Steam. Steam signs all executables and so anything installed using Steam never has this issue.

No, I download the zip from the latest releases and just unzip it. I also pin it to the start menu though I doubt that makes a difference.

Also how do you make that quote block when you reply to someone?

Then I have no idea. I see it on Win 11 Pro with every version, and I grab every release, RC, and dev version the day it’s available. The original explanation came from the Godot dev team. Emi talked about it when he was doing weekly streams.

Highlight the part of their post you want to quote, and then a pop-up will appear. Select “Quote” and it’ll start a new reply or add it where the cursor is in your current reply.

Thanks for the info everyone. Since it sounds like it’s kinda common, I’m not going to worry about it… had some minor unexplained networking issues here (resolved now), so I had a just a little concern about some type of man in the middle attack, but I’m sure it’s fine, now.
