android - ios games

For the past few weeks, I’ve been considering using Godot to create several medium-complexity games for both Android and iOS.

Is Godot generally a good solution that doesn’t really lack anything for such purposes compared to other engines? I’m asking from a practical standpoint.

I cannot speak for IOS, but for Android, yes, most certainly.

“medium-complexity” means different things to different people, but the Godot framework can be used for anything from super simple hobby coder games to studio created complex multiplayer games in massive open world RPGs.

I don’t know of any official AAA games in Godot, but that is about AAA acceptance as much as it is about Godot capabilities (IMHO, others may differ on this).

Check out the showcase page for inspiration and confidence in your decision.

Surely you have seen YouTubers playing Dome Keeper? That is a Godot game.

Again, that is a bit nebulous. What exactly is causing you discomfort? Like all engines, download it and spend a week or two trying it out. See for yourself. I think if you have not been too polluted by the unreal or unity way of doing things, you will quickly find it an amazingly intuitive and concise approach to many game complexities. If you have been polluted, well, the changeover is pretty simple too. Just you might have to get used to a less convoluted way of doing things, so give it a chance.

Honestly, IMHO, you should use Godot. (But in all honesty on a Godot forum what would you expect. Ask on Unity forum and you might get a different answer  )

Good luck either way. I hope your game plans go well. If you choose Godot it will not be the engines fault if it doesn’t quite work out. If it does go well, Godot will have helped! Good luck!
