Best way to handle lots of sound effect?

I want to know how people handle sound effects that play constantly like when multiple enemy spawns and every time they attack a target, it plays an attack sound. If it comes to a point where there are lots of enemies attacking something at the same time or even consecutively, I could only imagine chaos in my ears. What’s the best way to, let’s say, make it seem like every time an enemy attacks something, it seems to play the sfx without actually playing them every single time it attacks to minimize the sound being played?
