Can Godot compatibility mode affect performance?

As my cpu only supports a version older than GL 3.3, I need to run the engine in this mode. My question is about the engine’s performance, because when I use it in this rendering method, it becomes slower and barely processes some interaction events. The code editor is also affected, making it more difficult to follow what I write due to the slowness.
For those who use Godot in this mode, do you face the same problem or is it something more specific?
