GLTF Importing Question?

Godot Version

4.3

Question

I have imported a 3D object that I wanted to use in Godot 4.3 in my game as an item to collect to power another item. Now the object itself was downloaded from sketchfab, I have assets before from sketchfab and they worked properly, but, this one has me confused when I click on the object itself in the FileSystem this comes up:

I think this looks great and immediately put it into the scene and this occurred:

And it just looks completely washed out with no colour whatsoever, very transparent, so it looks like a shadow.

So, is there any thing I can do to get the object looking as glorious as the top picture in-game, and if so how? Or will, I need to ditch it and keep searching?

Thankyou and Regards.

How does the item look in Blender? Most likely, these are settings related to transparency. In the best case, you should check them and change them in the material properties in the engine.

As it is there is no Blend file available for download just the object itself in a variety of formats like GLTF, GLB and others.

I am am not even a Blender noob, I have less experience then that, I have only used Blender once to make a destructible object and I followed the tutorial precisely.

With the above, would you just recommend ditching the object? I have tried a number of “diamond” type objects now and none seem to work, no colour and completely transparent.

Regards.

Blender knows how to import glTF. I usually view all 3D models regardless of format in Blender. If you can share a model — I can look at what the problem might be.

I recommend looking in the model - material - settings in the engine. And check the transparency configuration there.

I had no idea, trying that out now!

I don’t think I can share the model with you! I can tell you when the object is living though through the link on sketchfab:

Trying that also now as well! Cheers.

I am not registered there.

That’s cool. Thanks for the help you have supplied already! The size of the object is enormous I should be able to change the scale of the object so I don’t need to scale it so much,

Cheers.

How about this if you could make the 3D model look like this, with the “viewport model” in Blender and I pay you for it:

Would that be agreeable? Using Blender and GIMP for me is like pulling teeth I could then share the file over that GoogleDrive thingy that I haven’t used in ages and get the file to you that way, if you are against registering for the sketchfab.

If you don’t want to do it cool with me just thought I should try. Right now I need sleep lots o’ sleep.

Regards.

The model looks okay. I believe the problem is the material transparency transfer. It happens. It is usually fixed in Godot, in the material properties. I can’t say more and more precisely, as I have no opportunity to study the model in detail.

You can use any file sharing site to share the model. I use https://gofile.io

Sorry it took so long to reply, my little sleep went much longer

Anyway, I had no idea about things such as “GoFile”, I thought the only things available to people were DropBox and that free one from Google. If I had known I would’ve sent it immediately proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks.

I did try and find the materials for the object and I couldn’t find anything, but I was tired and to be really honest I had no clue what I was doing, Blender is not something I have spend any time with.

I used GoFile and according to them the file lives @ Gofile - Cloud Storage Made Simple

Hope that works, btw the offer for payment still stands.

Regards.

Here’s what happened, I started going through every option I could to try and find the “transparency” options on the model. I couldn’t see it at all, then, on the very last option I clicked on what looked like a globe and a list of option came up. One of the options was transparency, so I clicked on that and changed the settings from .5 to 1 and that didn’t make much of a difference, I really thought it would, the object was still very washed out, then I tried the emission and colour settings I thought if they were set it would stop the object being washed out it didn’t, then I saw a setting called “tint”, I thought if I set that to black then maybe that would add some definition to the shape, it didn’t. At that point I had given up and then I saw “roughness”. I didn’t really know what that would do but I changed it to to the maximum value of 1 and hey presto that was it, it came up looking amazing, I don’t really know what that roughness does but it made the object stand out and you could see the shape in the game window.

Now that all came about because you said to look for the “transparency”, without that I never would’ve found anything.

So, thankyou greatly for a least giving me something to look for.

Beir bua agus beannachct!

Well, I meant this

So you have solved the problem?

I really thought you were talking about in Blender itself, I never thought about looking for that stuff in Godot, some of which I have used. I know Blender is powerful and can do a lot of great things, I have characters created in Blender with over 30 animations each, and a dungeon set, but, like GIMP I have a hard time doing anything in it.

Oh yes, it’s looking good now.

Thanks :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:.
