I am a teenager who has just finished school for the summer so have a lot of free time. I have been thinking about entering a Game Jam because from what I have heard they are a good way to improve your skills. Are there any child/teen exclusive game jams that I could enter or are their some others you would reccomend? I have heard of the Inbound Shovel Game Jam by the Youtuber Inbound Shovel but I do not know any other ones.
Don’t know of that many during the summer. GGJ-Next is hosted in January and aimed towards young developers.
Kenney jam starts soon, It’s a good short 2 day length and I’m sure many 2d and 3d assets available to use.
You can check itch.io for more jams, look through the featured jams first, then I’d recommend filtering ≥10 participants and ≤7 days.
One of the biggest is GMTK game jam, which I always take part in. Not specifically aimed at young people, but I don’t see any reason you couldn’t join. There are some special rules for children below 13 only.
