Gutter Run, my second Android game with Godot

Hi,

Today I released Gutter Run, my second Android game made with Godot to Android :tada:!

Gutter Run is an action game where you control a ball rushing through a gutter collecting points, avoiding obstacles like ramps, bumps and mines while running againts the time. It is a 3d game but I tried some 2d visual elements here and there.

I have also made one game with Unity before the Whole Mess (you know what I mean). I transfered to Godot and after this one I am pretty sure I’ll use Godot also for the next game. The idea is already brewing and like many times it pushed me to release Gutter Run now since I am already aching to start the new project .

Well, anyways, this is a hobby for me, so as are other ones, also Gutter Run is free of charge and free of ads, available in Play Store for Android.

I’ll leave here the link to Play Store if you want to try Gutter Run out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.techsupportcat.gutterrun

I also added a couple of gameplay videos for Youtube if that is your thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5wmBK70EqQ&list=PLpBZhL1weCjyuZdG1wr540nl24rq_r5tJ

If you have any comments, ideas or feedback, let me know!

I add a couple of screenshots here so you can get the idea

First minor update since launch: I added a small helper gesture to the moving panel.

At first I decided to omit tutorials from the game since I though that the game mechanism was self explanatory. Move the ball and collect things. But since the first thing people do on the first try is ask “How do I move?” it clearly is not self explanatory . After people got the ball moving there were not all that many questions left. So I decided to go with helper gestures instead of a full in-game tutorial. Helper gesture has a timer of 3 seconds. I was left a bit unease if it should be longer maybe 4-5 seconds. Another option was to leave it on until the player touches the moving panel. After some tries I decided 3 seconds was good enough for the player to notice it and then try it out of curiosity.

Anyways, let this be a reminder that after coutless tries everything seems self-evident for the developer, but it is not for the first timer.

Hello, just tested your game !
I took a long time to understand how to properly move the ball. At first I thought you had to give impulsions to the ball and it’s just some minutes later that I understood that you have to hold the tactile area to really gain speed.
Before understanding it, the game seemed slow but after I understood I was able to feel the speed and took pleasure playing the game.
It seems the art is made by ai, it would have been cool the tell it somewhere at some point.

Thanks for the comment! Maybe some additional hints about moving is still needed. Lets see if I can come up with something.

About the AI art: Yes, the background images are originally made by AI and then modified by me. Icons, textures, skybox and collectables are from various bundles I have purchased, mostly from HumbleBundle. Also music and effects are from one of the HumbleBundle packs. I try to use as much human made gfx and music as I can. I take no fees nor show ads in my games so I don’t profit while using AI.

But, to the point: usage of AI generated content is not without problems. I am not quite sure where the correct place for such a note would be in this case. Feels weird to announce about it in the post since the game ia not about that. Maybe some common agreement about how to notice the usage of AI generated content might actually be helpful.
