As well after spending hours in day, weeks in months on my project.. i didn’t feel good for that.. because it’s just being boring so should I quit this or continue the project??
Game dev takes a lot of time and attempts.
When you are developing a game, question yourself that is the game fun or not. You will find your answer as to whether you should continue the project or not.
Well to be true.. “ fun “ is also somewhere my problem..
I noticed many time in life collage and with friends that something they feels funny i didn’t.. and something i feel funny is just garbage for rest of world.. and yea i can say Thier is nothing “fun” in my game just a tank Walk whom around some object spawn like fule, coins and ammons and enemies. Player can collect them and fight to enemies..
But game jams are Short timing and you have to do a lot of work. It’s pressure full work.. and as much i know pressure kills creativity.. because creativity is freedom ?
Well i am managing game making, leaning c++, story writing, improving art, some simple exersise like push up and pul ups for keeping body active with a 6 hours college day . Is that not sufficient pressure to ignite creativity??
It’s not in that way, when you have to do a lot of work in short time ,you make some creative decisions .That’s what I meant.
You should try making a game in 3 hours, that have simple art style.
I joined the 20 seconds game jam,and I got 30 days to make a game that lasts 20 seconds.here’s a little devlog I wrote:
A little Devlog:The jam was about a month long but I didn’t joined it for some reason…I joined the jam at the very end and I was able to finish the game somehow lol.
DAY 1:I joined very very late, like I only have 4 days left.I started with very odd non-sense ideas and I just gave up…
DAY 2:I got this idea of closing the apps and saving them, soo first I ended up running a real prototype in my pc ,and it was awesome! like I can’t save the files in 20 seconds lol, sooo I ended up started prototyping the game in Godot and the results are pretty cool! Things I added on that day:WIndow,Timer,Basic gameplay
DAY 3:I ended up in a very odd game breaking thing, that is players can just closing all of the programs in like 8-9 seconds easily soo it’s kind of game breaking bruh,I thought how about adding lag and jitter but it didn’t worked quiet well sooo after thinking for a while,I added the Anti-Malware thing xD
English is not my native soo don’t spam RIP grammar!
Well i understand everything.. English not Also my native language.. so don’t fear I am not gonna judge anyone… btw what is the fees of game jam joining?
Perhaps you’re trying to do too much at the same time. You might be setting the bar too high. Game making, coding, storytelling, art, phycial fitness, college, do you see how long that list is? No wonder you become unmotivated or burnt out. I’d cut half that list and focus on 2-3 things intensely, rather than so broad. If possible for your situation of course.
Also, taking a break is not a crime. Take some time off, play some games, go for a swim or whatever. Come back when you’re motivated. No shame in that. It’s a cycle we all go through.
Well actually i am not burnt out.. i still have idea and energy to work on them.. the thing is I am alone.. and i just want a patner who can help me in some of the works like coding or art m. I doesn’t mean i can’t do . I know within few months I will be much better.. but Thier is still fear of being alone.. and to be true.. Thier was no reason for this post. I just want to talk to someone for a fresh up..
Ok.. i just checked one and thier are nude or adult contents Also??? These things are seriously allowed?? “ The world is being much darker as I am exploring it “
Some advice for this is if you are trying to make a game other people will find fun then you will burn out. You have to make a game you find fun. If you think the entire idea behind your game cannot be fun for you. Start a different project or as many people suggested joining a game jam. If you think the idea is fun even if everyone else says the game idea sucks keep going, for me personally once you finish a game the hurdle of this boredom goes away a bit. Not entirely that’s just part of game Dev.
I hope you don’t mind if I’ll jump a bit late into the party.
The main question: Why are you doing game dev?
Playing games is fun. Making games is not fun.
There are two things that are fun in gamedev. 1) Thinking of game ideas. So… much… fun… 2) Releasing the game. It’s fun for about an hour and when you ask yourself: what’s next?
The problem is that between first and second there is a gap of pain. The gap size depends on the idea. If you can make a game in a month, when you have the month of not fun. If you need a year to make a game, you have year of not fun. If you need more than a year… Alone you will not finish (there are always exceptions).
However, gamedev is not unique. Listening to the band and thinking to yourself: I want to do that too is So… much… fun…. Performing on the real stage for the real crowd is so much fun. But learning the instruments, writing songs, going to play in the bar and nobody is listening to you… No fun.
Eating cake is fun. Buying ingredients, baking is not fun.
So you choose what you can endure and stick with it or not.
When you are not doing it alone. It’s better, easier. But it’s still not fun.
Having fun with the players : D
like my game got many players and I loved talking with em,And if your game is good and you earn some money! you will also have some fun eating your 5 liter vanilla ice cream box!
