Hey guys! I have been gone for a while, and the reason for that is because there is the Brackeys Game Jam 2025.2 going on from now, and the theme was “Risk It for the Biscuit”, So the past week before last week, I decided to make a challenging (but fair enough) 2D platformer titled Owlet and the Biscuit Tower.
In the game, you play as a character named Owlet, who must scale The Biscuit Tower in order to retrieve The Legendary Biscuit, but beware, because there’s spikes layered all around the tower, so getting to The Legendary Biscuit won’t be easy. However, the unique part about these spikes is that you can pass-through them. (For example, if you simply walk past these spikes, you won’t die from them. If you jump on the spikes, THAT’s when you die), and if you die even once, you have to go back to the beginning of the tower.
The main gameplay loop is as follows: You try to escalate The Biscuit Tower → You die → You respawn → You try to escalate The Biscuit Tower → You die → You respawn, rinse and repeat.
Last Saturday, 16 hours and 30 minutes before the deadline, I submitted Owlet and the Biscuit Tower on itch.io, making this game my first ever game made in Godot and released to the world altogether. Now, you can’t rate the game because the Brackeys Game Jam 2025.2 ended last Saturday and the entries are currently being reviewed and scored for next Friday, but y’all can definently still play my game and give me feedback in the Community section of my game at the very bottom of the description, because y’all are perfectly welcome to do just that. Also, since this is my first ever game made in Godot 4, I followed a bunch of tutorials regarding to making a 2D platformer in Godot 4 for Owlet and the Biscuit Tower, and plus, I originally wanted to include a whole bunch of items to collect and other things to dodge, such as coins, enemies, traps, and other stuff, but considering I worked most of the game on Friday, I chose strictly to spikes only as the main hazard, to manage my scope better and to avoid scope creep.
BUT, if y’all want to play my game, here’s the link: Owlet and the Biscuit Tower by Joshington.
I LOVE Godot 4 now, and it’s going to be my main engine from now on. (P.S.: Before the Brackeys Game Jam 2025.2 started, I was scrambling to find a game engine, choosing from either GameMaker Studio 2 or Construct 3 after I quitted GDevelop, but at the end of the day, I chose Godot 4, and my entire achievement as a game developer was Owlet and the Biscuit Tower.)
Here’s a few screenshots for when I was making the game:
