Good game! As a tip for puzzle games in general, you want to not discourage the player to keep trying. A few things you could change:

  • Don’t reset the level state after a failed attempt; this lets players keep tuning
  • Do reset the states of moving objects right when the character is launched, preventing it from becoming a timing game
  • Try to find/make more music; the one track became repetitive

There were also lots of good points in the game.

  • Unique mechanic
  • Good sound design
  • Good level design
  • Lots of content for a 1-week jam game
  • Very good considering it’s your first game
  • Satisfying physics

Overall, well done! Good luck in future projects.

Thanks so much for the feedback, Godot community!

And special thanks to @ComicallyUnfunny !

  1. The reset problem will be patched after the game jam voting. (Most players seem to hate it, though.)
  2. Resetting the platforms on launch would feel weird, I think, but I’m considering doing that or something else so it doesn’t become a timing game.
  3. I’ll look for more music. (Maybe a Stage 2 track, plus another track for the main menu and level select?)
  4. BTW i like WOMBO!
  5. I want to make a game for GMTK too!

Great first game! It’s quite fun already, and I love that the design isn’t too stiff to allow surprising victories  I got to the second set of levels, but the difficulty seems to go up quickly around there.

I do second @ComicallyUnfunny in that it would be nice to leave the platforms in position when resetting for a new shot. I get that it’s part of the challenge to (re)set them just right, but it is a bit annoying for the player too. A fire key would be nice too.

Do you plan on working more on the game?
