Obssidian Combat VFX — 100 stylized 3D attacks + a free 5-effect pack

ObssidianCombatVFXitchshowcase

Hi everyone! I’m sharing two Godot 3D combat VFX collections from Obssidian Art: a paid library and a separate free pack you can use in your own game.

Obssidian Combat VFX — paid collection

The library contains 100 complete combat sequences, plus 6 projectile scenes and 6 strike scenes: 112 Godot scenes in total.

It covers energy slashes, divine lances, fire and lightning attacks, portals, summoned attacks, explosions and boss ultimates. The editable scenes, scripts and materials let you adapt the effects to your combat system. Controls include size, playback speed and intensity, with recoloring where supported.

The download includes a showcase project, integration documentation and a commercial-use license. The tested baseline is Godot 4.7.1; compatibility with other versions or renderers is not guaranteed.

See the full collection on itch.io

Five original attacks - free collection

This standalone collection includes a returning golden crescent, a fire bloom, an electric harpoon, a void tether and a water crown. It has its own interactive demo, editable source and integration instructions, and does not require the paid pack.

Tested with Godot 4.7.1, Mobile/Vulkan. Personal and commercial game use and modification are allowed; standalone asset redistribution or resale is not. See the included license for the full terms.

Download the 5 free effects on itch.io

Both collections use procedural effects. These are visual effects; connect them to your own gameplay logic.

If you try the free collection, I’d be interested in hearing which Godot version and renderer you’re using and whether the integration instructions are clear.

Looks good. Acquired; I’ll try it out in my ‘Dungeon Master’ project. Thanks.

Thanks a lot! I’d really appreciate any feedback once you try it in your Dungeon Master project — especially if you run into any issues or have suggestions.
Also, keep an eye on the pack. I’ll be adding more bonus effects for existing buyers over time at no extra cost. Thanks for the support!

I tried a first few; they seems easy enough to set off (I already had Fireballs of my own, so simply swapped your tscn for mine…). I’ll have to read up a bit more on how to orientate, scale and aim the Fx, but it’s looking good for now. Impressive quality for the Fx I was able to see clearly, so I’m very pleased. I’ll be back with questions if I get stuck, of course. Meanwhile, many thanks, and…
Have a great day.

Thank you so much for your feedback and kind words! I’m really glad you’re enjoying the effects and finding them easy to integrate into your project.

I truly appreciate you taking the time to test them. Your feedback about orientation, scaling, and aiming is especially helpful, and I’ll look into improving the documentation with clearer instructions and practical examples.

I’m also considering creating a Discord community where users can ask questions, report issues, share suggestions, and help me improve the assets based on real development needs.

Please feel free to reach out anytime if you run into difficulties or have ideas for improvements. I’m always open to feedback and want to keep making these resources better for everyone.

Thanks again for your support, and happy game development!

Here’s a (very…) short U-Tube video, showing one of these Fx pasted into my Dungeon, attacking a rather angry Zorg. It took less than a minute to incorporate this Fx in the place of my own Fireball; there are still parameters to sort out, but it’s working, and working well, so that’s a start.

Wow, that’s awesome! It’s really exciting to see one of my effects working in your Dungeon project!

Thank you for taking the time to share this video. Seeing the effects integrated into real games is incredibly valuable, especially knowing it took you less than a minute to get one working!

I’d love to see how your project progresses. And if you encounter any issues while adjusting the effects, feel free to reach out.

Also, would you mind if I shared your video on my itch.io page or social media? I’d be happy to credit you and link to your project.

Thanks again for your support, and keep up the great work!

You’re more than welcome to share my modest video as you think fit; no attribution is necessary. I’ve been working on my Dungeon Master Project for over four years; it’s likely to take as long again to be completed..! I’m old, and retired; I do this in my dotage to keep my hand in, there will be no ‘final’ release to an unsuspecting public. It’s just one of my hobbies, along with composing, gardening, model RC 'planes and more.
If I could make a suggestion, concerning your splendid Fx..? They are powerful, varied and spectacular; it’s also useful, on many occasions, to have less sophisticated Fx (a simple animated Fireball, a modest casting of a spell, a lightning bolt..?). I have found, over the decades, that sometimes, ‘less is more’, and that the more elaborate Fx shine all the more when used sparingly, alongside more modest (quality…) Fx. Just a thought.
Now then, back to my Dungeon… Chum

Ah, a teaser..! Yes, that’s the sort of Fx I meant. Are these available (I had a good scout around, but couldn’t find these…)..? I, for one, would be very interested. 140 - 3p9T3qx

I’m working on polishing them; I’ll add them to the package as a gift and let you know when they’re up.
