Three professions, one town: what I learned building a life RPG solo in Godot 4.7

A fully functional prototype has already been built. You can check it out via private message.

Practical conclusions have been drawn from this empirical experience. I have three news items to share in this regard. One is good, and two are bad.

Good

  • It’s possible to create a living city where life truly flows and every resident goes about their business. The prototype randomly generates a city of up to 60,000 residents, all procedurally generated with their own characteristics and no two alike. You can look into virtually any room and observe every resident.

Bad

  • The prototype was built using AI. It took about two weeks. A highly skilled programmer estimates that doing this amount of work manually would take two years.
  • Porting the project from GDScript to C++ resulted in a sixfold increase in performance.
