Volumetric fog clipping?

Question:
Sometimes the background seems to clip away. It happens when I look away from the origin at certain angles/distances I believe.
I think it has to do with volumetric fog, but I’m not entirely sure and couldn’t figure out why and how to fix it. I’m also using the Sky3D addon.

The view frustrum has a flat far clip plane so the diagonal to the corner is actually a longer distance than straight forward, so maybe there is something set to vanish at the distance to the front and it appears again on the diagonal.
