LOL, It’s a horde survivor after all, not a typical shooter.
Also, that’s hardly 10% of the wave’s enemies on-screen in that shot.

Hey guys!
I’ve decided to replace the game’s arbitrary feeling ‘combo’ system with a new ‘power’ system. Here’s how it works:

  • Collect stars to gather power levels
  • When you complete a power level, gain a large time bonus
  • Subsequent levels are harder to fill but give a proportional amount of time
  • Reach a certain level (20?) to ascend
  • Discarding powerups resets your level
  • Losing a powerup makes you lose 5 levels

This power system will help make the arbitrary-feeling combo system more approachable and concrete.
Sadly, it’ll push back the update time by possibly another week :sweat_smile:

I vastly overestimated the difficulty of this change. The system is already done!

Oh yeah, forgot to mention: there’s now 2 max dashes, similar to Hades. I haven’t yet made items to affect that stat, though.

Known issue where ascending with lots of powerups crashes the game. I’ll fix it ASAP.
Edit: fixed.

Hard at work on the character/weapon system. It should hopefully be ready sometime this week, and you’ll be able to pick out a character, weapon, and melee weapon.

-Okay so.. I started my run with 100k stars lol

-The names end up off-screen for me when I’m hovering on one:

-I think that piano sound during your runs don’t really fit the vibe. It felt kind of jarring whenever I heard it.

-It would be good if when you go through the powers, the specific power also changes font colour to highlight it. I know you have Power 1, 2, 3… but it might help with even more clarity.

-In the tutorial, I noticed you’ve got some highlighted text with a wobble effect. I’d actually increase it a bit.

Other than that, goddamn this game is fun. I couldn’t figure out which power gave me that rapid fire, but it’s one of my favourites haha.

The 100k stars was a debug thing I forgot to remove. I’ll fix it in the next build.
About the piano, could you record a quick clip of it so I know which sound you’re talking about? I’m assuming you mean the level-up sound, which will be changed in the next build.
As for the names, I’ll fix that next build too.
As for the colour/power thing, I sort of want to keep the Power colour being that orange, so I sadly can’t change that.
A power increase sound and effect will be added for clarity though.
As for the tutorial, it’ll be overhauled next build since the game has changed quite a bit since it was written.

Sadly, I didn’t have a huge deal of time today, but many more characters and items are planned. There will eventually be ~10 of each!

Running Timmy Tuff Knuckles with Medkit is pretty OP.
Edit: got to wave 20, but noticed some performance issues to fix.

A new build is out!

  • Fixed max dashes stat
  • New character: Minton McMoney
  • Heart no longer freaks out at low FPS and covers the whole screen
  • Made Power system less forgiving (less time)
    Art is still my main bottleneck, so I spent my time mostly drawing the new character.
    I also got sidetracked by a 30-minute run, which is a good sign :rofl:
