Would This be possible with 2d skeletal animation?

Sorry for the maybe silly question, I’m in the process of learning 2d skeletal animation and was curious if this thing would be possible:

Is it possible to switch out polygons (Or maybe the textures on those polygons) in 2d skeletal animation, for example if you want different hands for different weapons or what not?
