I’ve been working on a new game for a few months now, and the time has come for it to be officially announced. It’s called Arise Dark Lord, and it’s the 8th game I’ve made with Introversion Software. If you’ve played any of my previous indie games - Prison Architect, DEFCON, Darwinia, or The Last Starship, then I think you’ll love this new one.
You are The Dark Lord. Your evil aim: To raise an undead army and crush the feckless, godless, heathen humans. As your sorcery and army grow, all the world will rise up to destroy your Dark Tower and end your reign of terror. Fortify your dark realm, enhance your sorcery, and build enough strength to march out and crush the humans once and for all.
*
An action-strategy hybrid RTS, blending tower defence, base building and direct control of your Dark Lord avatar.*
Announcement Trailer
The game is built in Godot 4.5 and Gdscript, and it’s the first time Introversion has used Godot to make a game. And thanks to Godot you can play the game right now on itch.io in your browser!
I’d love to get your thoughts on the game. Thanks for playing!

The demo is nice, I really enjoyed it. And the atmosphere was great. When I first heard the footsteps sounding like the dark lord was actually walking in a large hall I was hooked, and then the music started etc.
One thing I did not understand: In the last realm when I directly walked east the fog of war did not go away. I heard my army fight and die, but did not see them. I had to walk the path leading from north to the city located in the east to remove the fog there.
I’m looking forward to see more of the game.
Wow, this is incredibly polished. Doesn’t feel like a prototype; it has insanely good sound design and clean UI/onboarding. After walking into the light for the first time, the change in visual style was a bit jarring. I think the second 3D style with that voidlike region could suit the whole game better and be more unified. The Conquest game mode is also excellent.
I think its obviously styled like the art of The Lord Of The Rings, like the map in the early hardback editions. I think the style is great, very good job, neat animation and design.
