Build and drive a customizable car in 3D. Where to start?

Hello everyone,

I’m trying to understand the main idea behind building a car from parts, including the engine, doors, and many other components. I want to assemble the car and then be able to drive it, similar to games like “The Long Drive” or “My Summer Car.”

Can you point me in the right direction to get started? Is the car body a set of separate pieces or just one object? I have no idea.
