Character only jumps, does not move left or right

I was following Brackey’s youtube tutorial on how to make a game on GODOT. i inputted the basic movement script as shown but my character wont move left or right, but will jump. how does this happen?

is your character blocked by walls?

Are you using the left and right arrow keys? You will want to replace the ui actions with your own in the project settings > Input map.
