Hi guys! ![]()
After the Glitch Intro and State Machine plugin, I’m now happy to present to you my newest plugin: the Godot EasyEffects (EZFX), for adding some quick and dirty sound effects to your Godot project, especially useful for projects where sound effects are not a priority but are nice to have. Also, EasyEffects never stores any audio files to disk.
This plugin is very low effort to setup and very lean. It provides Ezfx.play_tone() which essentially takes an EzfxEnvelop.
@export var envelop: EzfxEnvelop
func _ready() -> void:
Ezfx.play_tone(self, 440.0, 0.5, 0.06, envelop)
Used together with the @export the EzfxEnvelop the Inspector lets you edit (see image below) the sound effect – similar to the sfxr family of tools.
As discussed a few days earlier on these forums it is essentially built around a single function (play_tone) which manipulates the sample buffer directly. For this global function which plays sounds, I built a in-editor user interface and a little resource which contains the sound effect data.
Note on use of heuristic regurgitators (aka. AI): Unlike my previous projects this one is mainly built from prompting with AI chat bots. I think this is fine, since most of the code was mainly visual code and a bit of well-known sound manipulation. I didn’t see the need for precision and I didn’t see much that I could have tested anyway outside of a few manual tests – therefore this project also does not include any test suits. Everything seems to work fine and I will fix any issues which will be reported.
Let me know what you think!
If you have suggestions, want to see or tweak the code, it is alive on Github.
