My question is what if we make a game like roblox?
instat of using roblox studio you use Godot game engine.
this is a nice idea to get jung people to Godot.

Sorry if this is a bad idea
Plenty of young people use Godot for various things, in school and out of school
I don’t think we need to appeal to some younger IP to draw in the young people
Sounds logical
i was roblox dev for 8 years, and when i moved to godot year ago - it changed everything
Roblox i’d say is best place to learn programming and game dev, at least was when i started, it’s super easy, and allows you to make fun stuff without learning much apart how lua works
When i moved to godot - i saw how limited roblox was, in godot you can do anything, the question changes from “is this possible” to “how to make it”
Godot is like best step for roblox devs who want to move on, but godot is way better for more advanced game dev
I have no idea what roblox studio is, so i will just go with the advice of former roblox devs, that godot is a step above, the roblox studio.
Godot is very good for large/advanced projects, while also not messing with cost-heavy/resource-heavy engines (godot being open source and free, another thing i love about it).
I would say that sure, you could do whatever you have in roblox in godot, but whether you want to spend that much time on that or not is up to you.
My spark has always moreso been in 2D games, e.g. warlords, mario 3, dragon quest, etc.
and I feel that since retro gaming is becoming more popular, that this will be a more common bringing of young users to godot as well as older ones.
I wouldnt call it a bad idea, but i would say that the practicality is difficult to suggest,
if someone wants to make roblox in godot, sure, do it; i wont stop you.
However, on the contrary, there are also plenty more ideas you can have and turn to reality in godot than that, and i prefer to focus on those things.
well thats exactly what my main project is, a roblox inspired game
this is the game for anyone wanting to see it: Tuffblox Client by aCentauri
(i have no idea on what to name the game and most assets are a placeholder)
it loads a game from a json file, and currently has 5 instances and 3 materials.
im planning to add javascript as a scripting language
Roblox is not a game on its own, but more like a community-fed game gallery.
Godot already has its own, shared with unity, unreal and LÖVE engine. It’s called itch.io and lots of games get posted there.
Okay so no GD hub for us ![]()
i think there’s single thing you can’t recreate in godot, which is the scale of community and free, tens of players, sandbox servers - at least not as indie dev
You can. It merely takes skill and the correct choices.
The only thing that would restrict you is your own mind/willpower.
