Question
Hey everyone, this is more of a general question because I am not 100% sure how to go about this and haven’t found the best examples of it yet.
The idea is simple how does one achieve true drag and dropping in 3D from a top down view, so not limiting the player to 2 dimensional drag and drop.
I am wondering whether you must lose one dimension when doing something like this or have a sort of mix of systems between raycasting and controlling the object in only 2 dimensions.
Like imagine wanting to drag some tools into a storage container across the screen, you can either get the height and width or width and depth or any combination of only 2, how would one drag into the third dimension naturally when you only have a 2D screen.
One way is probably to add to this the input of the keyboard like with the mouse you control X and Y and to get that depth you move with W and S, but I am curious if anyone has any experience on doing this kind of stuff or something cool to share ![]()
