Making a fire effect for a 3D torch

Question

So I’m making a 3D game with the help of a friend, I’m currently trying to make a fire effect and I have something that looks pretty nice, but I’d like to make the colour fade to black/grey near the end of it to make it look a bit like smoke, how would one do this?

And also, is there a way to make the effect constrained to a cone shape so it won’t clip into the 3d model when moving?

If I could mark both of these as the solution I would X3

First one has really in depth descriptions, second one the visual result I think is nicer
So I think using both in tandem is quite helpful
