Reid House - short horror point-&-click for Game Off 2024

Hi! Guess who had the idea of dedicating the entire month of November to learning game dev and then found out there’s a yearly game jam that, coincidentally, happens in November! Me :,)

I am very into horror, particularly quiet horror. Bonus points if it’s filled with metaphors and conversations about emotional or philosophical topics. So, naturally, when I saw that this year’s theme was ‘secrets’, my mind immediately went towards darker directions.

At first I followed an Escape Room tutorial to prototype the game’s core features (although it is more of a simpler point-and-click than an actual escape room), but at this point I’m just doing everything myself, mostly through guesswork. I must be good at guessing. I know in the future I’ll probably look back on this thing and laugh at how rough the script is-- but right now, I’m proud of what I have!

It’s fun seeing my art move around and do weird things the computer tells it to do.

The actual game

Short description: A psychiatrist hopes to get some insight into his patient’s life by paying a visit to his now empty house.

Long description: Short point-and-click adventure where you walk around a rotting house. Inspired by H.P Lovecraft’s “The Case of Charles Dexter Ward” and Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of “The Haunting of Hill House.”

This is from an earlier phase when I hadn’t made the first few rooms. They look like this:

Yesterday I drew and coded everything for the kitchen. I’m very proud of it so far =)

(I hope the videos work…)

I’ll be posting devlogs to Itch.io if you want to check it out. Here!

Thanks for passing by ^-^

UPDATE: ITS OUT!!!

You can now download it on itch.io!!! Just use the link i placed above. Please report any issues here or in the page itself’s comments. I am very happy ! <3

Not really my style of game but it’s nice to see the effort you put in and most importantly getting it out to people.

Have fun on your game dev journey.
