Released my first game!

Godot Version

4.2.1

Question

After about 6 months of learning Godot, how to code, and game design basics, I’m calling my first project finished (for now)!!! I just want to say that this forum was incredibly helpful when asking questions and a big motivator for me to keep going. There’s comfort knowing that we’re not on this journey alone.

I wanted to link the itch page here for folks to play and provide feedback. No need for any donations, it’s not worth your money :stuck_out_tongue:

Primary tutorial followed was https://youtu.be/abA7TF7z6W8?si=udlGlIfyIh4M7DBj

TTYL!

Any chance of a HTML version? I’m on Linux and can’t try your game out.

try wine

I’ve always found WINE annoying. :man_shrugging:

true well i guess you can throw it in a windows box / vm

True, but exporting a Godot game as HTML is the easiest option. Takes about a minute.

The game looks very nice, and I’ve followed you on itch. I’m also on Linux so haven’t tried the game yet due to the extra effort required, but I’ll keep an eye out for the HTML or linux versions in future

Much thanks. It only takes a few minutes and it’s pretty easy.

Hey PDHales,

Here’s HTML version so you can try it out. I experienced a couple of stutters with frame rate at the start but it was pretty stable after. 5-6minute mark you will likely see some more frame rate drops.

LMK what you think!

In case you didn’t know, you don’t need to create a separated page to add HTML support, since you can have multiple versions of the game in the same itch.io page.

All versions Linux/Windows/HTML can be in a single page.

Hello. As @antimundo already wrote, you don’t need to create multiple pages to release the same game. Just add the HTML version in the one where there is Windows and this allows people to play the game directly in the browser.

Here are my thoughts:

  • The green ships are too fast when you are at the beginning of the game. In the first play through I got totally destroyed by those ships.
  • For the web edition of the game you should remove the Quit button because if someone presses it the game will be soft-locked for no reason.
  • A pause menu, during the game session, can be useful to stop play for a moment. This is useful if you have to do something important first and then return to play from where I left instead of losing and restarting from over.

Although I have enjoyed playing your game

Thanks @antimundo, I’ll have to get that changed around!

Thanks for playing and providing some notes @simonestarace!

I appreciate your note about the speed on the green guys, might be worth making a slightly slower variant to start.

A pause button would be a good addition. I do feel it’s missing some basics like audio sliders for music and SFX. I assume it’s pretty simple to add those features in.

Hopefully it wasn’t too laggy!

Yeah, you’re probably right

Yeah I had the same feeling when I played for the first time.
When the first ship was destroyed I was from level 1 to 3/4 and it was weird when I saw it

Good to know. Changing some of the rng with experience gems might be helpful for this problem. Or maybe making the weaker enemies only drop low XP count gems.

Thanks gang!

I didn’t notice any stuttering. Really enjoyed the game - got to about level 35.

I did find the direction of the spaceship a bit confusing, but that might just be me.

It took me a minute to understand the controls, I thought it was a space shooter more like Asteroids (mouse button to fire etc). So I was also accidentally clicking upgrades when they popped up. All my fault for not clicking the ‘Controls’ option  Level 9 on my first attempt, level 21 on my second.

On the HTML version I played, I didn’t notice any stuttering either.

A very nice game!
I’ve also posted on your itch pages and I (Rokoddity) followed your itch account
