This topic will be exclusively for sharing content and updates for my game, FORUM FIGHTER. FORUM FIGHTER is a game that takes characters across different media and has them fight in 2D arenas reminiscent of locations across almost any videogame you can think of. Game is non-profit, meant for fun and planned to receive updates.
More will be revealed with time and you’re free to accompany development here or on my Discord server (MDDigital | Base Community Server). Hope to see you there!
So, can players create their own characters and share them? In theory, it’s possible, but in practice, there are some challenges. I’m currently working on this issue.
As the game’s content changes, there will be more questions.
Characters are picked by hand and put up for voting. Sprites, mechanics, stages and everything in-between is made by hand.
I don’t have plans for custom characters/stages yet, though I plan on adding it much later. I’m not paying much attention on the matter because I’m trying to make a simple enough, interesting, fun game.
Well, this approach is much easier to implement—when the developer places the characters in the game themselves. But then there can be no question of character sharing. At least at this stage.
Creating a fun game is often not a very easy task.
Our first Sneak Peek! This is for one of 8 characters you’ll be able to play as/against on FORUM FIGHTER’s launch. They have red and blue in their suit and can fly.
This looks awesome! Cant wait to see any updates
*It sounds similar to Super smash bros, I think this is going to be a cool project and I certainly want to play it
Would you guys think it’d be more pleasing for the game to have 3D backdrops or 2D? 2D could save time, but I’m in no rush to put this out. Besides, I like doing 3D stuff for 3D games. As it stands, the one backdrop made for the game is 3D, but depending on what you guys want, I could change.
It’s more of a non-profit fan project made for fun. The current Demo build being worked on use few assets as placeholders, which will be remade by hand and implemented to replace whatever is in the game currently. Locations, characters, music and moves are all derivative from original sources but FORUM FIGHTER is more of a fan-made, tribute game to internet gaming culture made for pure fun instead of an attempt to compete with anyone. Mechanics, level design, UI and custom content are 100% original and hand-made by me exist to make this game more of a transformative crossover fangame than commercial hit.
Just using the characters (e.g. Superman) can get you in trouble, right? Or do you mean that the characters will resemble popular ones but not be the actual IP?
If it is a free fan game, and assuming Nintendo doesnt get mad, you will be fine making a free fangame with random characters in it, or at least, to my knowledge.
No Nintendo involved, I don’t want to get my hands dirty! To list two names from the top of the list, Invincible and Sonic the Hedgehog occupy part of the 8-Character roster for Demo 1. My point from earlier still stands, anything besides locations and characters are gonna be hand-made to avoid trouble from using officially made assets.
Could dragon quest/dragon warrior characters be included, or at least hero from DQ5? OK this is just more of a sidenote, and great choice with Sonic—Sega is way cool about fan made games.
For the folks here that aren’t in my Discord server, surprise surprise! Omni-Man is one of our 8 playable characters for Demo 1! Includes a default palette, two alternate and one unlockable skin:
