Retro JRPG: Logisnesia, Devblog Thingy

Hello everyone, I hope your day is going wonderfully. :slightly_smiling_face:

As you know, I have been working on a retro JRPG that i previously called Omnislate.

I restarted the project a few months ago due to maintenance issues, and overall i hated the menu, etc., and all of you have helped very much. I highly appreciate it.

I have now come to make quite a big announcement, first of all, the graphics overhaul is doing great, the menu is now going well, my analysis on nodes for menus is using buttons and grids like plastic bricks works best.
I have also taken the executive liberty to rename the game, from now on, it is known as:

*drumroll…

  • Logisnesia

*dang it forgot the cymbals…
*what you read the title of this post?
*oh well, no surprise then. . .

The game’s base, base systems are Attack, Defend Ally, Nesu, and Item.
Depending on your situation, you can also summon some creatures to fight in a character’s place, but each can only be summoned once per so many battles and once they die, you cannot revive them.

Since there are to be at least 8 Zelda-style dungeons, Nesu is a weapon and a tool,
sometimes you may need to use an item instead, depending on whether you have that power or not.

Classes are stat-determined, and based off of a balance. A lot of things, including parody dialog, are a bunch of logic traps, so yay on my end

I have worked on some game art, some of which is literally a parody and unfinished,
and currently my profile picture is the default male portrait used in the game.

I wont give much info on the story, and in turn will release a demo as soon as it is ready.
If you want to play my game, then i hope i can make the best experience possible.

Some of this you may already know based off of other posts of mine,
apologies if so  hehehehhh

Development has been slow lately due to composing music and making artwork, so
I truly hope to make a game worth your time quickly as possible, without sacrificing any quality.

I have so far put quite a bit of “witty” parody dialog, depending on the reactions in DEMO 1,
I will either leave them or take out some.
For parody purposes mostly, i intend to use sampled down some screenshots of myself
for super awesome amazingly animated boss fights

(why did i make 2 screenshots with level the level1 command menu UI? That’s, uh, a good question, actually. I wont be showing too much more, the new battle scene will be in DEMO 1, though. )

If i told you this was a Super Famicom game with a fan patch translation, what would you say?
theoretical scenario, this game is not designed to nor will it run on SNES hardware. Of course.

Any feedback at all is appreciated, I enjoy hearing your oppinions on my humble project.

Some trivia: the hero is aged 18 at the start of the game. yes that is the greatest info i have said so far.

I dont think i gave a good reference, so uh, here ya go
NOTE, i have no idea why the gif uploads as if it is analog, but i guess thats the good old days, eh? (footage sped up by a bit )

And this dialog is what i meant earlier

Very DragonWarrrior/Final Fantasy. (The originals.)

Hahaha!! Exactly my main inspiration! Lol, i feel like so many people will be confused with the Door command, you agree? (its mostly there for parody purposes but does have a real purpose .)

I’m looking forward to trying it! I grew up on NES and SNES RPG’s

In my humble opinion, that’s fine. Loads of these games had translation quirks and weird terms, it just adds to the flavor.

I forget, were you composing the music in a mod tracker?

Thank you, I myself am looking forward to playing as well lol

Yes, i was initially composing in SnesTracker, but due to the fact that all the samples are played at a very high note, I took the liberty to swapping over to Furnace Tracker,
which is much better in my oppinion

Does that mean the game will contain adult content?

Good question! No, its just due to the story and whatnot.
I dont intend to add adult content, etc. for various reasons,
but I will admit i am kinda trying to play it safe due to the marriage/offspring mechanic

Another Sidenote;
Do you all think it would be a cool idea to use 3D models to bring more life to the battle scenes, or should i make the battle scene sprites like i did them before?
(Yes i am suggesting due to Breath Of Fire, Donkey Kong Country, etc. I am going full-on SNES Authentic JRPG here)

This is probably a dumb thing to get opinions on, but I enjoy all of your feedback :slightly_smiling_face:

Do what makes you happy. I like the idea of surprising people with 3D enemies. What I would do though, is make them look like traditional 2D enemies when the battle starts and they’re idling, and then when they attack etc, they jump into the third dimension before going back to idle in 2D.

Thats a very good idea, I will test that out.
And aye, I will do what is best for the game, gotta have a balance between me, and those who would perhaps want to play my game. I really enjoy your feedback, thank you :slightly_smiling_face:

Glad you think so! I am hoping to post a demo sometime soon, 3d model conversion worked like a charm, so if you wanna try it out, keep an eye out for any updates i post :slightly_smiling_face:

Sidenote: *I suddenly feel like the adult content thing will be a running joke with my game, hmm…

First look at the world map—

Dang I got a lot of work ahead of me. . .

Anyways, its killing me, but i have been really refraining from giving any spoilers for the story,
Somehow i just remembered the campfire mechanic, based around Elden Ring, etc.
basically so that you can have multiplayer and whatnot, but in a strategic turn-based RPG.

Many apologies that i did not mention that sooner, truth be told i have had that on my mind for a while, i suppose i am dreading networking, etc. and really dont want to make any promises, but I certainly intend to add that in future.

you know, the world map looks kinda cool minus the little editor center point marker.

Any feedback is highly appreciated—apologies that this is not that great of an update.
