Welcome to the Godot Forum! šŸ‘‹

Hello, everyone!

I’m new to Godot, so I expect to learn much more than to teach, but I’m also a Blender experienced user, so I hope I can help in 3D topics to some extent.

Thanks for having me here too!

Hi!
I didn’t see this thing when I first started using the Godot forums so I guess I’m getting this ritual done late : /

Hello! Been using Godot for 4 months or so, when i started my first (currently in development) project, luckily, my knowledge in other programming languages has helped a lot, for some reason i never joined the forum until now—I look forward to my contributions and hope i can provide help when i am needed!

I’ve been here for 2 years and never replied to this post. But I think I’ve earned the right to a late ritual

Hello :3
I am FrozenFried, and I have been using Godot for 2 years. Even though I joined the forum a year ago, I never introduced myself.

Good afternoon…
Joined just over two years ago, did a search here and discovered that I had not posted here before. Apologies offered. Soooooo…
At 76 next birthday, I’m an official ā€˜old fogie’, with a failing intellect along with my eyesight. Retired from a long and varied career mainly in IT, so some (now old-fashioned…) programming and coding skills, much of which is fading from what memory remains. I have been using Godot principally as a ā€˜learning’ tool, to keep what grey cells I have left stimulated with challenges. To this end, and using Blender as a source, I have, since 2021, been creating a 3D Dungeon Master FPS, with animated insects and other beasts, on a series of labyrinths influenced by Semmuu maps that I came across.
All Levels have been constructed (plus a couple of extra Levels…); many are populated with a full cast of adversaries. There is an Entry-level ā€˜get used to it’ room; once successfully ridden of the roaches in there, one may proceed to meet other, increasingly ā€˜interesting’ enigmas, surprises and difficulties. Currently adding Inventory, with Items randomly dropped from extinguished foes, and Particle animations for their exploding demise. I have no intention of commercialising the final result, but will try to at least publish a working Demo of the first Levels, once I have it all stabilised and exploitable. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to ask questions on the Forum, which is my main source of recourse when I run out of knowledge on some, often basic, details.
Apologies for the long post (rambling of dotage are to blame…); meanwhile…
Have a splendid day.

Level 1…

Level 1, Hall 1…

Here’s a short U-Tube video of me playing (badly…) the Entry level of my Dungeon Master. No AI, of course; all my own work.

Short Dungeon Master Demo …

… and an even shorter ā€˜teaser’ video of the first moments …

Enjoy…

Hello
I’m a former game programmer turned librarian.
I’m still doing gamedev on my spare time and lately I’ve dabbled with godot, mainly c# but a bit of GDScript as well.
I like to be asked about the game I’ve worked on =)

Hi from France,

I’m a seasoned software engineer, no longer young (45).

I have worked 3 years for Ubisoft where I shipped Ghost Recon Breakpoint (sorry) and then worked on Beyond Good and Evil 2 and some internal cancelled projects.

Then I realized to buy a house I needed way more money, so went back to my comfortable previous job in the energy/tech industry. Now I own a house and making games is now a hobby and I’m fine with that!

I use Godot mostly for retro pixel-art prototypes, like in the 8bit-16bit area, so really I have no complain I can do everything I need with Godot + assets.

Master plan is to finally ship my own small game, make money for early retirement.

Many thanks to Godot core team and contributors!

Hi Godot community! I’m coming from an iOS development background. Made a couple games in SpriteKit, and now that I got a taste, I want to make more sophisticated games and all my research pointed me to Godot as a fit for my needs and dev style. Can’t wait to start creating and I look forward to seeing all your projects as well!

I’ve heard different pronunciations in tutorial videos, etc. For the record how is it pronounced?

  1. guh-DOE
  2. guh-DOT
  3. GOD-it
  4. GO-dot
  5. something else…?

Not the best thread to discuss this. It’s the Welcome Thread.
You can pronounce it how you want. The main devs are calling it guh-DOT, with a T. But I prefer the version without the T.

Ah got it, thank you! Almost metaphorical to the Godot engine itself in a meta kind of way: free, flexible, community-centric and a bit rebellious.
