That sounds immense! Love seeing how this is progressing.
Yeah I’d be up for some gaming - I’m just moving houses rn so I’ll probably be more free around the end of the month.
Yeah, it’s a busy month for me too. Hoping to have more dev time in November. See you next time, hopefully.
Map of the day system is out! Might be buggy; hopefully it’s all fixed though.
Well, speaking of bugs, just made a hotfix so that enemies can’t spawn outside the map ![]()
Glorious new update:
- Reroll system in the shop allows for much more interesting builds
- Lots of new items
- Improved camera system lets you see the enemies rather than being super zoomed in all the time
- Minor balancing
A web version is now available (but of course, the download is preferred).
This could help those without a graphics card that can handle the game (@anon39987850)
It also improves CTR and engagement to let users try out the game right away.
Liking the updates; just got 2 things for you:
-The camera still does this. Is it intentional? It feels really off-putting atm:
-On KBM, it would be nice to start the next round with LMB as well as enter, so I don’t have to take my hand off the mouse.
What!?! I think this has to do with screen-based scaling… I have certain camera movements scale based on the size of the user’s screen so they feel the same on different devices. I’ll look into this today.
As for your other suggestion, I’ll add that too.
What is KMB?
KBM, my bad! Yeahhh, it’s always done it for me. I have a 27inch monitor, pretty sure its the normal aspect ratio (16:9) etc. If you need any specifics on my monitor lmk
I should be working rn, so I’ll get on this when I’m home. There’s also a game-breaking bug in map generation that I need to release.
@lZebl , I’ve put out a new build that I think solved the issue.
It also has:
- Better navigation and no game-breaking bugs
- Codebase rework to the powerup system for maintainability
- Bit of new content
Perfect, I’ll give it a go in a few hours and let you know how it holds up
A new build is out!
- Camera improvements
- New items
- Major UI improvements
- New music and sound
Also, discarding has been reworked: Powerups that are discarded are no longer lost, but their time remaining is effectively paused and they are set onto the ground for later. This allows for more strategic powerup usage.
New tutorial in the menu. Need feedback if it’s clear or not.
If my small following here could take a look at my Discord post on the Godot Discord, it would likely help it gain traction:
Okay, so I haven’t tried the tutorial yet (nice work on adding it though, I’ll give it a go soon).
-The camera bug still happens, but only on controller. It’s way less frequent now.
-I keep coming back to how strong the audio is in this game; it really helps sell it on its identity. I’m liking that new ambient track in there, if you know which one I mean. It feels like you’re just surviving this never-ending fight. It also kinda reminds me of Undertale.
-Another point on audio - the juicy feedback mixed with those sound effects when you’re on the menus are awesome.
-The tweaks and additions are adding up nicely. Keep it up man.
-PS. how do I give you 5 stars on itch?
Edit: Nevermind, got it!
-Oh also, the core loop feels great now; so you could start adding other things; like randomised floor tiles for example. Could give a sense of constant progression and variety on your run, along with the new music.
No clue what’s happening there lol.
I’ll likely end up deleting that post anyways - it was made with a personal account and I’d rather be associated with my development one (comicallyunfunnydev@gmail.com)
TYSM man!
I’m surprised that the audio’s any good in the game; I’m no expert on audio or anything. My only skill is programming and layering a few cc0 assets off Freesound. ![]()
Next up for the game is an ‘ascension’ system where when you reach a certain combo, you may choose one powerup to make permanent.
BTW, something that would be endlessly helpful (if you can manage it) is if you could record a whole run of yours - from the boot screen to the Game Over. It would massively help me spot issues and show me how players actually approach the game.
